TVS VISION
It
began with a vision to design, develop and produce an affordable
moped for the Indian family. The man behind the vision was
the late Mr. T. S. Srinivasan, then Chairman of Sundaram
Clayton Ltd. In 1980, the first product of this vision rolled
out of our factory in Harita, Hosur in Tamilnadu. It was
the first TVS 50. The
TVS 50 was the first moped in the country built for two.
A byword for ruggedness and reliability, it met with huge
success. In the process, it redefined the moped market in
the country. Today, TVS 50 is the largest selling moped
in the country.
In
1984, TVS opened up the motorcycle market with the first
Indo-Japanese 100 cc motorcycle, in collaboration with Suzuki
Motor Corporation, Japan. Many successes later, came the
TVS Scooty. An outstanding illustration of the company's
indigenous skills and strengths, taking just 21 months for
the Scooty to go from concept to completion.
The age of the Scooterette
had arrived. Today, TVS has gone a long way. It has been
recognized as the 'Emerging Corporate Giant' by the Economic
Times and The Harvard Business School Association of India.
This year, TVS Suzuki is marching towards the Rs. 1,600
crore turnover mark.
The
TVS Suzuki factory is an example of how India need not lag
behind the developed world in technology or process. The
factory uses CNC machines extensively across all facets
of manufacturing processes. The quality of the equipment
is only matched by the high standards of its processes which
bring the best out of its people. TQC is a way of life in
TVS Suzuki and not a mere philosophy. Kaizen and Quality
Circles are practiced with ease. No wonder, the motivated
workforce, executives and managers contribute to continuous
improvement in perfect harmony. The best example of TVS
Suzuki's prowess is its R&D Department which is a Government
of India recognized R&D centre. Staffed by India's best
automotive engineering talent, it is equipped with the world's
latest 3D CAD/CAM workstations to improve design capability
and shorten lead times. The equipment list goes on with
a fully fledged metallurgical lab; a programmed gas emission
analyser; a prototype shop; an exclusive test track of International
standards. Technology harnessed to win the unbroken trust
of 2300 customers every single day.
TVS
Suzuki has been constantly innovating in the motorcycle
segment as well. The Suzuki Samurai was launched
for the urban commuter. The Max 100 R, engineered
for those who demanded strength and ruggedness. The Suzuki
Shogun, for those who wanted raw power. TVS continues
to keep 'one step ahead' of its time by creating India's
first 5 speed, 140 cc motorcycle - The Suzuki Shaolin.
A new 140 cc, 15 BHP Suzuki Shogun is to be introduced with
a 5 speed gear to dominate the power segment. The new Suzuki
Fiero that offers the unique dual benefit of power and
economy is India's first motorcycle with features like electric
start and digital fuel ignition. The 60 cc TVS Scooty
as the NO. 1 scooterette of India. For that matter, the
TVS Spectra - a 4 stroke scooter designed and developed
with the best talent drawn from all over the world. TVS
Spectra was the first scooter to meet Emission 2000 norms.
To enhance customer friendliness, TVS Spectra will be available
with an electric start.
Technology and time
never stand still. The future will bring new challenges,
new threats, new regulations. To meet these, the company
is investing heavily in improving equipment, processes and
skills. Already these investments are bearing fruit: TVS
Suzuki's two wheelers are geared to meet Emission 2000 norms;
Catalytic Convertors for 100 cc bikes - for the first time
in INDIA - promises to increase fuel efficiency and cut
CO&HC emissions; will soon be introducing India's first
environment friendly LPG Scooter. A range of 4-stroke motorcycles.
scooters and mopeds are being made for the future.
TVS Suzuki's latest
sensation is Suzuki Fiero - the fastest 4-stroke bike in
India. A showcase of the latest technology in ignition and
carburation, the Fiero is a 150 cc, 12 BHP machine with
revolutionary 'D-Fi' logic. TVS Suzuki began with a vision.
And it is that vision that drives the company forward -
to become the complete personal transportation company,
one that will build a lifelong relationship with the customer.
A relationship that is driven by the customer's trust.
