Pulsar variants to cost Rs 2,500 more
Friday, September 19, 2003

PUNE: BAL’s top-end bike, Pulsar, will cost Rs 2,500 more from November, when both the 150cc and 180cc variants comes with the digital twin spark ignition (DTSI) engine technology.

This technology will increase mileage, power, torque and better fuel efficiency for a 5% increase in the price tag. Launching the DTSI is an image makeover for BAL, seen as a technology laggard. It has developed the technology in-house and has applied for a patent.

Mr Bajaj said that the DTSI bikes will be launched in November, BAL producing 25,000 units of the Pulsar per month. “We have begun production of the Pulsar 180cc with the DTSI and in two days, begin production of the Pulsar 150cc DTSI.

By December, all Pulsar bikes will have this engine technology, which complies with emission norms slated to come into force from ’05 and brings us close to the norms of ’08,” he said.
