The International
Driving Permit (IDP)
On September 19, 1949, the United Nations established The International
Driving Permit, which facilitates the travel of motorists in
foreign countries. This document establishes the right of a person to drive
in another country. The IDP acts as the Driving Licence in the country for
which it is issued, subject to local regulations.
WIAA can provide an IDP to members going outside India, which is valid for
a period of one year from the date of issue.
For the issue of the Permit, the WIAA would need the following:
- Requisite application form duly completed
- Four unmounted passport size photographs
- Valid India Driving Licence
- Passport
The applicant must be present in India, and may be required to pass a test
of competence if necessary.
