The Presidents Address
- WIAA on the Net
Dear Members,
Let me first thank you for reposing confidence in me and your unwavering
support in electing me as the president of our association. The earlier
helmsmen made an enormous contribution to WIAA through their dedicated
services and I intend to add to their contribution. In these fast-changing
times, particularly as they relate to the automobile and its ancillary
industries, your association underwent many a metamorphosis. In order
to serve you better, we have taken several initiatives that will broaden
our subscriber base and include more services for members:
We have tied up with Mahindra Network Services Ltd. (MNSL) to help buyers
in purchasing second-hand cars. We will continue to extend our services
to members in areas such as car evaluation, insurance, transfer, etcetra.
Our dedicated website will be in place by February 2000
We are in the process of computerisation of route maps and road charts.
This task will be completed in another 4 to 5 months. In the second phase,
we will bring out graphically-represented route maps which will depict
different routes to reach a particular city, for instance.
We will also put up a Travel Desk for our members who wish to travel inland
or abroad. Members will get discounts at various hotels. Talks are in
progress on this subject. For travelling overseas, we have tied up with
an agency which will be responsible for all international hotel bookings
desired by WIAA members.
We have forwarded several suggestions to the government such as issuance
of laminated licenses to all motorists.
To promote safe driving, we have organised various driving courses at
our office for training car as well as commercial vehicle drivers who
man hazardous goods carriers.
The present alarming situation on the roads prompts us to take a serious
look as to how we can all become good motorists. On behalf of WIAA, I
request all members and other motorists to practice safe driving. Let
this new century bring you the sheer thrill and enjoyment of driving and
promote responsible motoring attitudes in our country as well.
We would also like to elicit your frank views on the new Motoring magazine.
Kindly fill out the response form and send it across to us.
Vimal Shah
