GULF DIRT TRACK CHALLENGE FOR TWO WHEELERS

Jodhpur: The Polo Ground staged new sport on Sunday the 19th Sept. 04 the Gulf Dirt Track Challenge for two –wheelers.

Dressed in their Sunday special, motorsport enthusiasts stormed at the Polo Ground, Panch Bathi circle to cheer the participants and to see the dare devils on the wheels.

The event sponsored by the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd. was the second round of the series, was flagged off by Shree Laxman Singh Rathore (Ex Vice Chanceller) at 8:30

The event was organized by Sportscraft – Mumbai in association with Apex Society, under the aegis of the Federation of Motor sports Clubs of India (FMSCI - Chennai).

Riders from all over India had come down to test their skills on the sand of Rajasthan.

All eyes were set on the Yamaha team and their bikes and sure the spectators were not disappointed.

As the first race of the modified vehicle was on the spectators stormed to see the performance. Dust and heat of the desert did not dissuade them.

However when the riders raced on their Foreign motorcycles the spectators were amazed at the speed and skills and cheered the participants.

All the rides put in their best and tried to prove better then the other however, it was Yogesh Barguje’s (Yamaha Racing Team) day and proved to be one notch above the all in his Yamaha YZ 250 F in Foreign Motorcycle Upto 250CC Group A class.

More than the prize money, a lot of which was distributed at the end of the event, it was the glory and honour that spurred the participants on to great displays of thrilling two –wheeling. And, of course, the points earned in this leg would add to the total points at the end of the five legs, making or breaking the hopes of the would-be champion.

Since past 4 years in its endeavor to promote motor sports in India the Lubricant Major - Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd the 2nd largest private sector company in the Indian market has taken motor sport to the grass root level. At the same time it co- sponsors the Raid De Himalaya in 2003. As a social cause it also sponsors events for the orphans The Foster a Child Rally in Mumbai.

The event was concluded before 12:00 noon and was organised with efficiency and clockwise precision. There were a lot of praises by the locals for Gulf, Sportscraft and its team. The event kept up to their expectations and hoped that more such events would be organized in their city.

The third, fourth and fifth round of Gulf Dirt Track Challenge are scheduled for 9th & 10th Oct.04, 22nd & 23rd Jan. 05 and 12th & 13th March 05 Jamshedpur, Nagpur & Coimbatore are respectively

In Jodhpur, in the scooters above 80cc upto 110cc Group D, Shamim Khan and Pravin Tidke came first and second respectively. The overall winner in the foreign motorcycles upto 250cc Group ‘A’ category was Yogesh Barguje of the Yamaha Racing Team, followed by Shiva Kumar of the Yamaha Racing Team, while in the motorcycle above 80ccuptp 110cc Group ‘ D’ four – stroke event, Shiva Kumar of Yamaha Racing Team on a Yamaha Crux rode out the eventual winner. In the motorcycles above 80cc upto 150cc Group ‘B’ two –stroke category Syed Eathasham of Yamaha Racing Team got the better of Shiva Kumar and Yogresh Barguje of Yamaha Racing Team who were placed second and third respectively. Also victorius in the motorcycles above 110cc upto 180cc four stroke Group ‘D’ event was Lokesh V. of Yamaha Racing Team on Yamaha YBX.

Special classes in 2 & 4 stroke Motorcycles were formed to promote local competitor, Mr. M Syeed from Jaipur, & Mr. Ravikant Sharma were declared winners in the respective classes of 2 & 4 stroke classes and Mr. Nitin Singh & Mr. Ravi Kumar Jangid were declared as runner in the respective classes of 2 & 4 stroke classes.
