1.
We have made and attempt to guide through the various procedures
and formalities that are require to be completed by you to enter
the World of Motor Sports. This will avoid unnecessary inconvenience
that you may be otherwise lightly to face.
2. Motor sports in India is controlled by a Central body
called The Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI). While
the actual sports events are organised by various clubs in the
Country, the guidelines, Technical Regulations and Common Organising
Conditions are formulated, co-ordinated and implemented by the
Federation.
3. There are several types of Motor Sports events conducted
by the Clubs in the Country. They are Circuit Racing, Rally, Motocross,
Hill Climb, Drag Meet, Motor Gymkhana, Autocross etc.
4. Each type of event mention above may be either jointly
or separately conducted for two wheelers and four wheelers.
5. As a new entrant to Motor Sports, you need to complete
various formalities before you can enter an event.
Phase
1.
I.
Find out the club neatest to your place of residence.
II. Become the member of the same (optional).
III. Decide in which category of the automobile you would
like to take part i.e. two or four-wheelers.
IV. Decide what type of event you would like to start participating
in. Experience member from the club will be able to guide you
in this.
Phase
2.
I.
You need the basic qualification of being over 18 years of age
and possession of a valid driving licence before you go through
the following formalities.
II. You need an FMSCI Competition Licence which will be
issued by the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI)
only. Being a new entrant, you will be eligible for a Restricted
Grade Licence only. Please approach the nearest club for necessary
form set.
III. This set will consist of an application form for the
Licence and Medical Certificate Form. You will have to fill in
the application form and get the Medical Certificate filled in
by an approved Medical practitioner. There may be one near your
place.
IV. Complete the forms in all respects and send the same
to your Club or to the FMSCI direct along with the required number
of photographs, Xerox copy of your Civil Driving Licence duly
authorized by an FMSCI Member Club or by a Notary Public and the
necessary fees.
You
may expect to receive the Licence within 1 or 2 weeks of your
sending your application.
Phase 3.
I.
Having completed these formalities, you will now have to prepare
yourself for the actual event.
II. What you need basically is a vehicle to take part.
If you do not possess one, you must have the capacity to borrow
one from your friend or relatives.
III. The vehicle must have current registration and a valid
Comprehensive Insurance cover.
IV. If borrowed from somebody, you must have an authorization
letter from the legal owner allowing you to use the same in the
competition.
V. For any event, you also need a special insurance cover
for the competition. Your normal vehicle Insurance will not cover
taking part in a competition. This will have to be taken to cover
the period of competition.
Phase
4.
I.
Once you have decided the event in which you want to participate,
write to the Club, which organises that event for an entry form.
Complete all the date in full and send the same along with the
required entry fee to the club concerned. Make sure that you have
enclosed all the required documents and the entry is submitted
in time.
II. Now is the time to start your preparation for the event.
There are specific regulations governing the sports.
They
are basically in two parts.
First
concerns safety and second concerns the technical specifications
for the vehicle. FMSCI publishes these regulations and you can
obtain copies of the same from your club on payment. Please ask
your club for price details.
The
following highlights the basic requirement of the vehicle and
equipments to be possessed by you for entering the Motor
Sports. Two wheelers and Four wheelers are dealt with separately.
(A)
Two Wheeler: - Safety
I.
You must possess a Riding Gear. This is an overall made of leather
or thick material providing full protection against an accident.
II. You must have an ISI marked full cover helmet. It must
be in good condition. Details of Helmet requirements are provided
in the Technical Specification for two wheelers.
III. You must have leather gloves. They must be full cover
gloves and half-covered gloves will not be permitted.
IV. You must have leather shoes, which are long enough
to cover your ankle fully. Make sure your shoes are atleast 150
mm high, providing adequate protection to the ankle in case of
an accident.
V. There are several other safety requirements for the
vehicle. They vary for different types of events and are listed
in the Technical Specification Manual. There may be some additional
safety requirement for a specific event, in which case they will
be specified in the Supplementary Regulations of that particular
event.
VI. You must conform to all the safety requirements without
which you will not be allowed to take part in the event. You can
always get guidance from the club of the FMSCI.
(B)
For Wheelers: - Safety
I.
The vehicle must be fitted with a roll cage. The detailed technical
specification of Roll Cages is provided in the National Competition
Rules (NCR).
II. The vehicle must be fitted with a Circuit Breaker.
This is a master switch which will cut off all electrical circuit
in the vehicle at all again speeds.
III. Seat belts are a must for both the front seat driver
and co-driver. Detailed specifications are in the National Competition
Rules.
IV. Fire extinguisher is a must with a specified minimum
capacity.
V. Additional Bonnet and Boot Clamp - Details in the NCR.
VI. Some other safety requirements are First Aid Box, Red
Triangle, BulkHead Sealing, Fuel Line Clips, Helmets, Break Conditions
and Break Lights, Reveres Light, Full Tank ventilation, Fuel line
passage etc. Details of minimum requirements are indicated in
the NCR.
VII. You will not be allowed to start in an event if your
vehicle dose not conform to the safety requirements.
VIII. We have only detailed the initial start-up procedure
and safety requirements for you to enter the sports. The details
of vehicle groups and preparation are not covered in this.
