Ford to deliver 'Josh' at the Auto Expo 2000

NEW DELHI , January 11, 2000 - The Ford India Limited Pavilion showcase Ford India's new, exiting IKON variants-1.3 IKON CLXi, the 1.6 Rally Sport, and the 1.6 GT concept car for the first time ever. In addition, Ford has announced partnerships with Dilip Chhabria, the pioneer of customised cars in India, and Narain Karthikeyan, the fastest Indian on wheels.
IKON GTInaugurating the Pavilion, Philip G. Spender, Managing Director of Ford India Limited, said,"The Auto Expro will set the pace for Ford in 2000. We are very exicited about consumer response to the IKON that topped the segment with 1677 sold in December. IKON will gain appeal and benefits and is aimed to "deliver the promise"of 'josh'.

JOSH CARNIVAL
With a 'zinda-dil' ambience, the Pavilion is very interactive, and will involve visitors with Ford through special events held everyday. The underlying theme at the Ford Pavilion during the Auto Expo is the environment. Some key highlights of Ford's week-long Josh Carnival were:

  • The rare and exiting opportunity to race against Narain Karthikeyan at the Ford pavilion
  • Narain was present at the Pavilion all week
  • A specially constructed racing pit where Narain raced remote controlled racing cars with Prizewinners and special guests
  • Display of a real-life Formula 3 racing car
  • Ford involved school-going children in theme based fun games, to increase their awareness and sensitivity towards the environment.
  • Display of the IKON GT show car, a unique radical interpretation of Ford's "New Edge" design
  • Tie-up with renowned auto stylist Dilip Chhabria

Prominent 'josh' personalities such as models Manpreet Brar and Nina Manual and MTV VJ Maria Gorretti, Channel [V] VJs Piya and Gaurav enlivened the proceedings of each day through their interaction with visitors.

JOSH CAFE - All week long

Ford has begun a novel concept in industry fairs and exibitions by up setting up a special 'Josh Cafe' in the Pavilion for Ford customers and special guests, catered by Taj.

CONTRIBUTING TO THE INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE POOL

During the Auto Expro, Ford also contributed to the industry knowledge pool by participating in conferences, seminars and special sessions. These included:

  • CII International Conference on 'World Class Automotive Manufactuuring' on January 12-13
  • SAE 2000 India Mobiliry Conference on "Popularisation of Mobility' on January 13-14
  • FADA(Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations) Auto Summit 2000 on January 15
  • Technical Lectures & Sessions

The 'Josh' theme pervades all of Ford India's operation in India. In keeping with the spirit of 'Josh', Ford India has unveiled three new IKON models within the first quarter months of launching the 'josh' machine. 'Josh' not only symbolizes the power of the Ikon but also the 'Can do - Will do' spirit of Ford India, its passion and drive for excellence, in product development, consumer satisfaction and corporate citizenship. In Ford India terminology, 'josh' is also the dominant disposition of customers of the IKON. As individuals, IKON customers are 'Zinda Dil', ready on-the-go, committed and large hearted.
