SCOOTERS INDIA LIMITED
Scooters India Limited
is no more an old scooter manufacturing company. It has
added one wheel and has thus become a profitable 3-wheeler
manufacturer , full of life, kicking and bustling. It manufacturers
3-wheelers in its factory but sells employment in the market
and in the process it has shifted its gear from working
on supply curve to demand curve, Quality, productivity and
discipline are the three legs on supply curve to stands
today. It has already acquired ISO 9001 accredition and
customer focus ahs resulted in profitable operations continuously
for the last three years. SIL has met all its debt obligations
including pay back of principal and interest due thereon
within the specified time, thus has become MINIRATNA PSE
as per the guidelines issue by GOI. The company, with active
contribution of all the employees, has not only increased
the production and sales but ahs also developed four models
of 3-wheeler viz. Vikram 750 (D) , Vikram 410
(D),Vikram electril 3-wheeler - VIKRAM EV and
is in process of developing VIKRAM -PG, a gas powered
3-wheeler.
R&D
ahs become the buzz word for the Company which also takes
assistance from external agencies like Automotive Research
Association of India, Indian Institute of Technology etc.
This has made SIL pregnant with many possibilities.
SIL as a corporate citizen has been conscious for environment
protection and accordingly had developed and demonstrated
Scrubber for its diesel powered 3-wheeler to authorities
concerned. The result in terms of limiting particulate emission
(SPM) were fantastic but the product has yet to find right
treatment with the authorities concerned. Though the company
is still pursuing the matter, without wasting any time to
meet the challange, the Company undertook to develop zero
emission battery driven vehicle which spread its wings in
Agra, Delhi and Jaipur as well, it did with great perserverance
and doggedness. Strangely enough, the company's battery
powered three wheelers were commercially exploited first
in Kathmandu, Nepal where it is known as SAFA (CLEAN) Tempo.
Vikram EV is driven by DC Motor with power input 72 Volts
from special deep discharge cycle batteries. It is totally
clean and non-polluting vehicle. It has neither engine nor
gear box nor radiator nor silencer and thus it is practically
a noise free vehicle and has no cylinder and piston to wear
and tear. It does not require any maintainence except battery
monitoring. The work of engine is done by the Motor and
energy is supplied through battery - fuel being electricity
which is stored in these batteries. Reversing of the vehicle
is done by changing the direction of rotation of the motor
and thus no gear shifting is involved. The processing unit
in electrical vehicle is the controller which is like brain
in the human body which coordinates action of all vital
electrical components which are produced from the best sources
in the world. There being no mechanical components, the
transmission loss in Vikram EV is minimum because of losser
number of moving parts and very low friction. The electrical
vehicle can do all the functions of a vehicle with IC engine
with only 75% of motor power. The limitation in comparision
to IC engine, however, is the range of operation. While
IC engine powered vehicle can have intercity run, presently
EVs will have only intracity run. However, with the developement
of infrastructure which provides for wide network of charging
stations like petrol pumps for IC engine vehicles and improvement
in battery technology, these electrical vehicles can venture
for intercity drive in near future.
SIl has learnt it very well that business cannot run on
slogans. Therefore, instead of becoming an environment analyst
and lobyist, it has taken the mantle of environment doer
in pursuance to which it has already put on road zero pollution
3-wheelers.
