Sprawling
over twentyfive thousand acres, the National Park is a splendid example
of biodiversity.
The park has towering trees, creepers & crawlers, shrubs, bushes
and grasses spread over hills and valleys, dotted with pond and
lakes. All providing micro-habitats for different species of flora
and fauna within one forest.
This mixed terrain and vegetation provides a home for more than 270
bird species, many beautiful butterfies and animals like leopards,
deer, langurs & macaques, mongoose, monitor lizards.
A special area has been developed as home for India's national
animal - the Tiger. You can take a special vehicle that drives you
through the tiger's domain. The experience of seeing the lord of
the jungle in tooth and claw is something few people will ever forget.
There are many trails you can walk in the park, and you can sometimes
see a herd of chitals, hear the shy barking deer or even spot the
pug marks of a leopard.
Getting there:
The Park is barely an hours drive from Mumbai city. You can take the
Western Express Highway that take you to Borivili. |
