1955-56 Chrysler 300
This
muscle car came with a hot cam, solid lifters, and two four-barrel
carbs, the C-300 boasted 300 hoursepower at 5200 rpm and 345
lbs/ft torque at 3200 rpm, making it the most powerful production
engine in the world. It proved unbeatable in 1955 competetion.
It won its first NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car
Auto Racing) Grand National at a 92 mph average. The 300 took
the checkered flag at 37 NASCAR and AAA races of more than 100
miles. It underscored Chrysler's already - prominent engineering
reputation, sparked sales of more mundane Chryslers, and itself
notched up 1725 sales in 1955 - good for such a specialized
and expensive model.
The 300's styling was a combination of Imperial and Chrysler:New
Yorker hardtop body; Windsor rear quarter panels; Imperial grille,
parking lights, front bumper, and wheel covers.
C-300 came only with PowerFlite automatic. Few extras found
their way into those first 300s; radio, heater, and power steering
were typical. Less often specified were power seats/windows,
clock, tinted glass, and wire wheels. Air conditioning wasn't
available. Only red, white and black paint jobs were offered,
all combined with tan leather upholstery.
