1957 Chevrolet Corvette
The
'57 Corvette had bodyside "coves" finished in a contrasting
color. The car had plenty to excite beneath the fiberglass
body - a new 283 V-8, four-speed manual shift, Positraction
limited-slip differential, and a heavy-duty racing suspension.
A Chevy ad told readers - "Get set for a new sight in
sports car style and silhouette. Get set for a new sound, a
new sensation, a new spirit-lifting surge of the Corvette's
dynamic new 225-bhp V8 engine."
1957 marked the Corvette's arival as a sports car respected
as much by the cognoscenti as by the kids on the street. Even
a veteran European writter had to admit that "After
Sebring, even the most biased were forced to admit that the
Americans had one of the world's finest sports cars..."
