Aston Martin DB4 convertible
The
DB4 was revealed to the world at the 1958 London Motor Show.
It was the ultimate Italian designed, British built GT car and
was made until 1963.
Aston Martin cars exude character. They are strictly "hand-built".
Every single specimen is still painstakingly hand assembled
with hand-beaten panels, hand primed and hand painted to a flawless
glass-like finish! A standing testimony against anyone who holds
that well made cars only come from Japanese robotized factories.
Aston Martin engineers, see, feel and touch their way to the
finished car-- a very human endeavor designed to satisfy emotions
and intellect of builder and owner alike. Aston Martin buyers
select colors and textures with the same intensity as the craftsmen
who build the car, combining the finest Connolly leather, polished
veneers and Wilton carpeting. No two cars are the same; each
one an individual, unique statement of personal choice.
"... in an age when so many cars are mere transportation - designed
to appeal to the many - Aston Martins are created for the few.
For people who share the spirit of the open road, who understand
and feel the passion." -- Robert Dover, Chairman: Aston Martin
The Aston Martin DB4 2+2 convertible shown in the pictured debuted
in 1961. It is a very rare car. Only 70 of these elegant convertibles
were built out of a total of 1110 DB4 models built between 1961
to 1963. The car could reach from 0-100 km/hr in 8.6 seconds
and peak out at 224 km/hr!
Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, Italy was appointed to design
the DB4 and applied their Superleggera bodywork to the DB4.
In the Superleggera process a welded skeleton frame of very
small steel tubing (and possibly heavy gauge steel wire) is
applied over the chassis of a body-on-frame car (as opposed
to a monocoque car). Aluminum skin is then applied over the
steel subframe, resulting in a lightweight rigid body. Other
fine examples of "Superleggera" bodies are Ferrari, Maserati,
OSCA, and Alfa Romeo from the fifties.
