1974
Ford Maverick
Ford
built their Maverick from 1970 to 1977. The Ford Maverick's
corporate cousin was the Mercury Comet, which was built from
1971 to 1977.
Considered to be Ford's most successful car, this fine automobile
sold 5.79 lakh units in its first year as compared to the original
Ford Mustang's 5.74 lakh popularity!
It
came with three sizes of straight-six engine: 170 cid, 200 cid
and 250 cid as also with Ford's popular 302 V8. A 3-speed steering
column mounted gearshift (known also as a 3-on-the-Tree) was
standard equipment with automatic transmission as optional.
Originally
introduced as a 2-door model Mavericks and Comets also came
later on, in 4 door models. The sporty models were called Maverick
Grabber, Sprint, Stallion, and Comet GT. The Grabber had "mean"
black-paint graphics and chrome plated aircleaner and tappet
covers. The Stallion had even more radical two-tone paint and
mag-wheels.
