For most
Indians, choosing a car is so much similar to looking up the matrimonial
columns of a newspaper for a suitable mate. The car is to become
part of the family and has to be compatible in all respects. Compromises
are made purely because of budget constraints.
The Soul -
Most Indians work through their lives and their cars do just the
same.
Work can involve travel through the crowded city streets. Rush-hour
traffic is very demanding on your car. You will appreciate a car
that manoeuvers easily and responds well while driving in stop-go
traffic. Your compact car gives you greater mobility in the city
with crowded roads and scarce parking spaces.
The
city car needs good air-conditioning to keep the occupants cool
and to keep out the smoke and pollution. Your car AC draws power
from the car engine which can cause cars with weaker engines to
drag due to the extra load.
Work
can also take you longer distances outside the city where factories
are located. Highway traffic can move fast and the road condition
can be bad. Almost everything that makes the car is tested for performance
- the brakes, the horn, the indicators, the lamps, the accelerator
and the tyres. The car you love needs to have good ground clearance,
sturdier suspension and enough power to travel long distances without
tiring. While travelling longer distances, fuel efficiency and safety
features gain more weightage.
The Looks -
The newer cars are not just meaner machines, they also come in great
shapes and colors. Until a few years back, Indian roads were dominated
by cars that were designed in the 60's. Manufacturers just changed
the shape of the front grill and sold the same old car to customers
as a newer model.
The
International Auto Manufacturers have brought into the country,
cars with newer generation engines and aesthetic designs. The trendy
designs are not just great looking, they also have lesser drag and
thus improve efficiency.
