The 1468 cc, 12 valve, 87 hp petrol engine produces enough power to propel the car from 0-100 km/hr in 12 seconds flat. The Lancer is also economical. Specially designed roller rocker needle roller bearings, 2 intake and 1 exhaust valve per cylinder, lean-burn characteristics and an optimum firing ratio all add up to help conserve fuel. The engine has a flat torque curve which enables you to drive in the bumper to bumper city traffic without repeatedly shifting gears

The jerk and grittiness of the gear box have been eliminated by using keyless synchronisers, a circular fulcrum design and a rotating axis.

The Lancer is equipped to face all the abuse of Indian roads. A specially strengthened McPherson strut suspension with an innovative mounting on a sub frame minimises any jolts. Further, a strategically placed toe-control link steers the rear wheels on curves. In effect, the car hugs a turn tighter.

The car has ventilated disc brakes in front and drum brakes at the rear. High rigidity brake calipers and 230 mm power brakes add to braking efficiency, and bring the car to a complete halt from a speed of 100 km/hr in just 6 seconds.
