Mercedes Benz India Ltd. first introduced the E-class in India, in 1995. Its current range of models has a number of additional and striking features like twin elliptical headlamps, the Mercedes Benz Drive Authorization system, the standard Acceleration Skid Control (ASR) and the newly developed braking system Brake Assist (BAS).

The four-cylinder 2.2 litre Common Rail Direct Injection (CDI) diesel engine is equipped with the new Variable Nozzle Turbine (VNT) turbocharger, which develops 105 kW/143 hp is the latest in the diesel engines meeting the EU2 norms and has the potential to fulfill the EU3 norms.

With high injection pressure and flexible control of injection process, the E220 CDI engine gives very low values for noise and exhaust emissions.

The manual transmission has been upgraded from five speed to six speed. And full snynchromesh gears reduce driver effort by as much as 25%.
Available as an option, the automatic transmission incorporates features like Cruise control and SPEEDTRONIC (the system, standard on the automatic models, where maximum speed can be set/ limited at the press of a button).

The multi-function steering wheel; retractable sun visors; and an interior lighting package that's both, safe as well as soothing make for complete driver comfort while the electrically adjustable seats - for recline and height, add that touch of luxury.

The car is invested with the world's leading active safety system - the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), which uses a variety of sensor signals to detect danger situations and then stabilises the vehicle by controlling braking impulses and engine power. In addition to that, Windowbags have been installed apart from the front Airbags.
